The first Democrat elected after the Civil War in 1885, our 22nd and 24th President Grover Cleveland was the only President to leave the White House and return for a second term four years later. Known for his honesty, integrity, and commitment to fiscal responsibility, Cleveland left a lasting legacy in American politics.

Under the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution, an elected president can only serve two terms in office for a total of eight years. This amendment was passed in response to Franklin D.
