John Adams was the second president of the United States, serving from 1797 to 1801. He was a Founding Father and played a key role in the American Revolution. Adams was born in Massachusetts in 1735 and went on to become a lawyer before entering politics. He served as Vice President under George Washington before being elected as President in 1796.

During his presidency, Adams faced challenges such as the Quasi-War with France and internal political divisions. Despite these challenges, Adams is remembered for his efforts to maintain peace and neutrality during his time in office. He also signed the Alien and Sedition Acts into law, which were controversial measures aimed at protecting the United States from external threats.

Adams ran for reelection in 1800 but was defeated by Thomas Jefferson. In a peaceful transfer of power, Adams stepped down from the presidency and retired to his home in Massachusetts. He spent the rest of his life writing and reflecting on his political career.
