In politics, a person or persons constituting the branch of government charged with executing or carrying out the laws and policies enacted by the legislative branch is known as the executive. The leader of the executive branch in the United States is the President, who holds the highest office in the country. The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing laws, as well as managing the day-to-day operations of the federal government.

The federal government is not the only place health policy is made in the U.S., but it is by far the most influential. Of the $4.5 trillion budget allocated by the federal government, a significant portion goes towards healthcare and public health initiatives. As such, the President plays a key role in shaping healthcare policy and overseeing programs like Medicare and Medicaid.

This piece was published before Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place as the Democratic candidate. The decision to drop out of the race came after months of speculation about Biden's reelection campaign and concerns about his ability to defeat potential Republican challengers.

The brainchild of conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation, the project outlines a series of moves to transform the executive branch by reducing the size and scope of government, cutting regulations, and promoting free-market principles. These proposals have been embraced by some Republican lawmakers and could have far-reaching implications for the functioning of the federal government.

One thing I did not predict for the 2024 presidential election was that between the Trump and Biden campaigns, former president Donald Trump would emerge as a formidable contender once again. Trump's decision to run for a second term has thrown the race into chaos and raised questions about the future direction of the country.

Municipal officials — particularly mayors, councilmembers, and city managers — should understand the roles of their respective offices and their impact on local governance. While the President oversees federal government operations, local leaders play a crucial role in implementing policies at the community level and addressing the needs of their constituents.

President Donald Trump's running mate, J.D. Vance, wants Trump to fire every civil servant and replace them with handpicked MAGA allies. This proposal, if implemented, would represent a radical departure from traditional government practices and could lead to widespread upheaval within the executive branch.

Beyond Donald J. Trump, the decision adds to the seemingly one-way ratchet of executive authority, with each successive administration seeking to expand the powers of the President. This trend has raised concerns about the concentration of power in the hands of a single individual and the erosion of checks and balances within the government.

President Biden is under increasing pressure to drop out of his reelection campaign amid growing concerns about his ability to beat Donald Trump in the 2024 election. With his approval ratings falling and internal party divisions mounting, Biden faces an uphill battle to secure a second term in office.
