WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP) — Eugene Vindman has never run for office, and he's far from a household name, but his almost cultlike status among those who closely follow national security issues has propelled him into the spotlight. With a background in the military and a reputation for integrity, Vindman is now setting his sights on a new mission: running for Congress in Virginia's 7th District.

The race for Virginia's Seventh Congressional District is in a dead heat, according to a new poll paid for by the Derrick Anderson campaign. Derrick Anderson can't shake questions about owning a home outside of the district, and Eugene Vindman is defending his military rank and experience, trying to win over voters who are hungry for change.

Eugene (Yevgeny) Vindman won the Democratic nomination in the state's 7th District, which stretches south from Washington's Virginia exurbs to the state's rural heartland. Democrats rally behind a rule to prevent the return of Trump's Schedule F, with Vindman, a Ukrainian immigrant, playing a key role as deputy legal advisor.

The race for Virginia's 7th Congressional District is shaping up to be very competitive — and very expensive. In the Democratic primary race, retired Army colonel Yevgeny Vindman faces off against a formidable opponent in Derrick Anderson, with both candidates vying for the chance to represent their district in Congress.

Yevgeny Vindman, who raised alarms about then-President Donald J. Trump's conduct toward Ukraine, will stand for Abigail Spanberger's seat in Congress as a beacon of hope for a new generation of leaders. Vindman's commitment to serving his country and upholding democratic values has earned him the respect and admiration of many in the community.

Vindman will be looking to succeed Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger in Virginia's 7th Congressional District, with a focus on championing issues related to national security, veterans' rights, and healthcare. Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman, a retired Army colonel who along with his twin brother raised alarms about President Donald Trump's actions toward Ukraine, is now ready to take on the challenge of representing his constituents in Congress.
