Today is the birthday of the late former President, Gerald R. Ford, who went from being a college football star to the White House under the most unusual circumstances. As Presidents Day is celebrated every third Monday in February, we want to take a look at the only president from Michigan – Gerald R. Ford. Ford's journey to the presidency was unexpected, as he was appointed as Vice President after the resignation of Spiro Agnew, and later ascended to the presidency following Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974.

In an attempt to move the country forward after the Watergate scandal, President Gerald R. Ford chose to pardon former President Richard Nixon, a decision that was met with both praise and criticism. Ford's decision to grant Nixon a full pardon was a controversial one, but he believed it was in the best interest of the nation to put the Watergate scandal behind them and move forward.

In 2007, Gerald Ford, the 38th President of the United States was commemorated with a Forever Stamp from the United States Postal Service. The stamp featured a portrait of Ford and honored his service to the country during a tumultuous time in American history.

The recent brouhaha at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation offers a window into institutional spinelessness in the age of Trump. The Foundation, dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of President Ford, faced internal turmoil and controversy that shed light on the challenges faced by organizations in the current political climate.
