Giant new oil and gas wells that require astonishing volumes of water to fracture bedrock are threatening America's fragile aquifers. The large quantities of water needed for fracking operations have raised concerns about water scarcity, especially in regions experiencing droughts or facing water contamination issues. This has led to calls for more sustainable water management practices in the fracking industry.

Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro has ordered fracking companies to identify the chemicals they use. And the state will post the lists publicly. This move towards transparency in the fracking industry is a step towards addressing public concerns about the potential health and environmental risks associated with the chemicals used in fracking fluid. By making this information accessible to the public, policymakers hope to promote greater accountability and oversight in the industry.
