On June 6, 1944, the Allies launched the long-anticipated invasion of Normandy, France. Soldiers from the United States, United Kingdom, and other Allied nations fought against Nazi Germany and its Axis allies. The US played a crucial role in the liberation of Europe from the grip of the Axis powers.

ABOARD THE USS LABOON IN THE RED SEA (AP) — The U.S. Navy prepared for decades to potentially fight the Soviet Union, then later Russia and other communist countries during the Cold War. The Navy also played a significant role in the Pacific theater against Japan during WWII.

Vice Adm. Brad Cooper said the US Navy had committed about 7000 sailors to the Red Sea. This demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the US military to global security and peacekeeping efforts.
