The Abraham Accords have played out in a much quieter, more private grind, according to those who are closely involved on the ground level. While the historic normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab nations have garnered significant attention globally, the real work of building relationships and fostering peace has been taking place behind closed doors.

Since formalizing the Abraham Accords in September 2020, the UAE and Israel have deepened their relations across a number of economic domains, from trade and investment to technology and tourism. The agreements have opened up new opportunities for cooperation and collaboration between the two countries, paving the way for a more stable and prosperous Middle East.

Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, played a key role in brokering the Abraham Accords. He has emphasized the importance of these agreements in promoting peace and stability in the region, and has called on other countries to join the growing coalition of nations working towards a more peaceful Middle East.

On the Third Anniversary of the Abraham Accords, Israel and two Gulf states, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, celebrated the progress that has been made in strengthening their ties. The Co-Chairs were joined by key diplomatic figures to discuss ongoing efforts and future plans for Gaza's reconstruction and long-term peace.

The Biden administration seems to have found its footing with Saudi Arabia, with a series of high-level visits to help advance ties with Israel. Despite initial skepticism from some quarters, the new administration has embraced the Abraham Accords as a positive step towards regional stability and cooperation.

Piker responded that the attack was a "direct consequence of the Abraham Accords and many of Jared Kushner's and Donald Trump administration's misguided policies." While there have been challenges and setbacks along the way, supporters of the Accords remain optimistic about the potential for lasting peace and prosperity in the Middle East.

The Abraham Accords states and their near-partner Saudi Arabia have not retreated from their stance on Israel, but are digging in to defend it. The agreements have created a new dynamic in the region, with traditional allies and adversaries reevaluating their relationships and priorities in light of the changing political landscape.

Almost every assumption that undergirded the Israel-Arab normalization agreements was disastrously wrong, and now we are paying the price. Despite official rhetoric about peace and cooperation, the reality on the ground has been more complex and challenging than many had anticipated.
