Deserts have long been a subject of fascination for people around the world. Their vast, barren landscapes evoke a sense of mystery and wonder, drawing in adventurers and explorers seeking to uncover their secrets. From the scorching sands of the Sahara to the icy expanses of Antarctica, deserts come in many forms, each with its own unique beauty and challenges.

Jessica Collier is lead researcher on a report from the University of Texas at Austin's Center for Media Engagement on news deserts, which found that many communities are lacking access to reliable information sources, leaving them isolated and uninformed. Much as its name suggests, desert rock is a subgenre whose roots can be traced to the Palm Desert scene of the late 80s and early 1990s. Known for its heavy riffs and psychedelic influences, desert rock captures the rugged beauty and raw energy of desert landscapes. Just as deserts are characterized by their harsh and unforgiving terrain, desert rock music is defined by its gritty sound and rebellious spirit.

Academy research associate Aaron Bauer, Ph.D., describes a legless skink (Acontias mukwando) from Angola's Serra da Neve. In the barren expanses of a desert, life finds a way to thrive in unexpected ways. From elusive reptiles to resilient plant species, deserts are teeming with diverse and fascinating organisms that have adapted to survive in extreme conditions.

Survivors and videos detail Hamas' attack on the Supernova music festival in Israel. The terrorist group disrupted the event with brutal violence, leaving attendees traumatized and shaken.
