Last month, congressional leaders from both parties bestowed a rare honor on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by inviting him to address a joint meeting of Congress. The decision sparked controversy, with some lawmakers choosing to skip the speech in protest.

PM's aides reportedly tell White House the address will enable Saudi-Israel normalization to advance; his office stresses that his visit is crucial for strengthening US-Israel relations. However, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) announced she will not attend the speech, citing concerns over Netanyahu's policies.

The last time Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the U.S. Congress, nearly 60 Democrats skipped his speech nine years ago, showcasing the divisions within the American political landscape. This time around, House Democrats are discussing various counter-programming events to provide alternative viewpoints to Netanyahu's address.

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., has announced that he plans to skip Netanyahu's speech to Congress later this month, joining a growing list of lawmakers who are choosing to boycott the event. Despite the controversy, Netanyahu's address to US lawmakers on 24 July remains scheduled, with congressional leaders formally inviting him to speak.

A date for Netanyahu's address to Congress was initially uncertain, causing speculation and debate among lawmakers. The top four congressional leaders have formally invited the Israeli Prime Minister, emphasizing the importance of the US-Israel relationship.
