The United States must reject the politics of cruelty and chart a new course on migration policy that is cooperative, compassionate, and effective. Collaboration with other countries is essential in addressing the root causes of migration and promoting regional stability. By investing in development initiatives and fostering international partnerships, the U.S. can strengthen its national security.

The regional and local impact of the COVID-19 crisis is highly heterogeneous, with significant implications for crisis management and policy.
