Our two main parties propagate the myth of left and right because it creates loyalty, energy and support among the membership. The falsehood of this binary division oversimplifies complex political ideologies and hinders meaningful discourse.

Americans agree that the country's politics have moved in a single consistent direction over the past decade: away from their own politics. This shift highlights the need for a more nuanced understanding of political beliefs beyond the traditional left-right spectrum.

These days, Republicans are commonly referred to as the right, Democrats the left. A major change from the earlier days of America, where political identities were not as rigidly defined.
