May marks two key anniversaries in the conflict between the United States and Mexico that set in motion the Civil War—and led to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The Mexican-American War of 1846 to 1848 marked the first U.S. armed conflict chiefly fought on foreign soil. It was a pivotal moment in American history that reshaped borders and defined nations.

Kevin McCarthy posted a video of his remarks at the Oxford Union claiming that America has never asked for land after a war. This statement reflects the complex legacy of the Mexican-American War, where the U.S. gained vast territories from Mexico in exchange for monetary compensation.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) already proved he didn't have the political surefootedness to keep his job as House speaker. However, the Mexican-American War showcased the ambitious expansionist goals of the United States during the mid-19th century, propelled by Manifest Destiny.

On July 4, 1776, the American Continental Congress issued the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. While July 4 is celebrated as a day of freedom in the U.S., it also symbolizes the beginning of a nation's journey towards growth and territorial acquisition, including through conflicts like the Mexican-American War.

In researching my family tree, I discovered one of my great-great-great grandparents fought in the Mexican-American war. I'd love to know more about this often-overlooked chapter in American history, shedding light on the experiences of soldiers and civilians caught in the turmoil of war.

The St Patrick's Battalion was one of the battalions that fought alongside the Mexican army and is highly regarded in the country. This group of Irish immigrants who defected from the U.S. military to fight for Mexico during the war, highlighting the diverse backgrounds of individuals involved in the conflict.

During the Mexican-American War, Irish-Americans Fought for Mexico in the 'Saint Patrick's Battalion'... As dawn broke on the morning of battle, these soldiers demonstrated their allegiance to a cause beyond national borders, showcasing the complexities of identity and loyalty in times of war.

During the war, Mexican Americans served in the military and worked on the Home Front to support their country, and when it ended, they faced challenges in a newly expanded United States. The aftermath of the Mexican-American War highlighted issues of citizenship, land ownership, and cultural integration for Mexican Americans in the newly acquired territories.
