Michigan State Board of Education President Pamela Pugh announced on Monday that she will run for the 8th Congressional District seat held by outgoing U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee. Pugh, along with Kristen McDonald Rivet and Matt Collier, are the three Democratic candidates vying for the opportunity to represent the district in Congress.

Primary winners will advance to the general election for the chance to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee in Michigan's 8th Congressional District. The race has drawn significant attention as it could potentially shift the balance of power in the district.

While some voters cast ballots early via mail, others will wake Tuesday, Aug. 6, and head to the polls for the primary election in Saginaw. The outcome of this election will determine who will be on the ballot for the general election in November.

Pamela Pugh vows to install economic dignity if elected to Congress. Pugh, who currently serves as the president of the Michigan State Board of Education, has a strong background in education policy and advocacy.

LANSING, Mich. - Michigan is one of 11 states that does not require students who are homeschooled to be registered or enrolled within the public school system. This issue has become a point of contention in the race for the 8th Congressional District seat as candidates debate the importance of education reform.

Incumbent Rep. Dan Kildee's decision not to seek re-election in 2024 could possibly put at risk a half century of Democratic control of the district. This has led to a highly competitive primary race with candidates like Pamela Pugh stepping up to fill the void.

“We are ecstatic to officially endorse Mr. Hill Harper and Dr. Pamela Pugh for their political races to win the Democratic primary, respectively," said a spokesperson for a local political organization. The endorsement highlights Pugh's strong support within the Democratic party and her commitment to progressive policies.
