Andrew Johnson, the 17th President of the United States, was born on December 29, 1808, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the youngest of three sons, born into poverty. His father died when he was just three years old, leaving the family in dire straits. Johnson did not receive a formal education and taught himself how to read and write.

Tusculum University will celebrate Women's History Month with a special presentation about ladies who played an important role in the life of Andrew Johnson. After the assassination of President Lincoln, Johnson made a huge mistake by granting thousands of pardons and passing lenient policies towards the former Confederate states.

Currently, he is a Principal Member of Technical Staff at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he is developing image-based techniques for autonomous systems. In answer, members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Johnson. In other words, they charged him with a crime. It was the first time in American history that a President had been impeached.

Andrew Johnson is an emerging technologies librarian who leads the Makerspace at the University of Georgia's McBay Science Library. Despite his impeachment, Johnson was acquitted by the Senate by just one vote, preserving his presidency but tarnishing his legacy. He served out the remainder of his term but did not seek reelection.
