Robert Kennedy, Jr., the scion of a famous political family, spoke about the environment, COVID-19 vaccines and the possibility of running for president during an event in New Hampshire this week.

Kennedy praised New Hampshire’s role in vetting candidates, and criticized President Joe Biden for proposing that calendar. “We have the New Hampshire primary, which is the first primary, and it’s a very important part of the political process,” Kennedy said. “We don’t want to see it diminished.”

Kennedy confirmed he was thinking about mounting a Democratic primary campaign for President in 2024. “I’m considering it, yes,” he said. “I’m trying to make a decision right now.”

Kennedy is the son of the late US Senator Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy. He has spent more than a half-century behind bars for shooting Mr. Kennedy, then a candidate for president, inside the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in 1968. Kennedy died the next day. His older brother, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas in 1963.

Kennedy also noted that he has the support of his family. “We have a great team of people here at the Kennedy Center who are passionate about this,” Kennedy said. “My family is very supportive.”

He also confirmed that he is consulting with former advisors to President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry. “We have a great team of people who are passionate about this,” Kennedy said. “We’re talking to a lot of people, and we’re listening to what they’re saying.”
