BULLHEAD CITY — 'Let's do this together,' was the unofficial theme to Mohave County Democratic Central Committee's 2023 Presidents Day celebration. The local Arizona organization hosted their annual Presidents Day event in Bullhead City, emphasizing the importance of working together to honor the office of the president. The day began with a march to the local post office, accompanied by the singing of patriotic songs, to symbolically mail letters of support to the current administration.

On Feb. 20, Wellesley College students celebrated their sixth annual “Almost Presidents Day.” Students took part in traditional mourning activities such as wearing black ribbon armbands and attending a graveside service for the presidents who were not re-elected, as well as those who were not elected at all. The event also included a moment of silence for all of the nation’s past presidents.

Presidents Day 2023 falls on Monday, Feb. 20. Here's everything that's open and closed for the holiday, including the post office and banks. Most federal offices are closed on the holiday, however, some state and local government offices may be open, depending on the location. In addition, most banks and post offices will be closed.

Our ambivalence about Presidents' Day says something essential about whether we think of the office as a symbol of democracy. It's a day that honors a leader who we can all agree was great, but it's also a day of sorrow when we remember the leaders who weren't elected, or the ones who were elected, but failed to live up to their promises.

Presidents' Day is a U.S. federal holiday observed on the third Monday of every February. This year, the day falls on February 20. The day is a recognition of past presidents and the office of the president, with many states also choosing to honor their state's own past presidents on this day as well.
